Deanna's Story
Life has been a journey through untested waters for me. After graduating from the U of M, I found a job there that turned into a career. Along the way I got married, had 3 kids, traveled a lot and found that I can fix and do most anything associated with houses and children's projects.
My heroes were my mom and dad. My mom was very non traditional, she worked, held regional office in the Presbyterian church, was a professional singer, worked as an advocate in the juvenile court system. She had a BA in education from the University of Michigan. My dad always supported my mom in what she aspired to do. He was an amazing and supportive father and grandfather (and surrogate dad to many more). He visited friends at home and in nursing homes. ntinued to visit and vacation with my parents until they passed. My dad and mom had many life long friends and touched so many lives in so many and positive ways.
I have seen much more of the world than imagined I would - 3/4 of the United States, Canada and Mexico, much of Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, China, Indonesia, Eastern and Western Europe, South America. Still have some to experience - Africa, Middle East, Arctic and Antarctic.
Retirement is not what I expected but it came at a great time (looking back). I got to spend a year with my dad before he passed. 2 daughters moved to Chicago and back. 1 with 4 grandchildren. I spent lots of time with them. Now in 2021 everyone lives 15 minutes from my home. Lots to do! I spent 6+ months of 2020 in the hospital with Covid and related complications. I’m recovering now., very lucky to be alive.
Hoping to see lots of SCHS ‘70 alums in August’21’!!
